Hi Glass Detective,
Is it possible to have tempered glass with clear edge instead of green edge?
Thanks for your response,
Frank M.
Frank,
Thank you for making contact with the Glass Detective with your question as to whether or not you can get tempered glass that has “clear edges” and not “green” edges. The answer is YES you can. Glass known as “low-iron” produces clear edges whether it is tempered or not. Originally developed several years ago for use in the furniture and fixture industry, low-iron glass is now widely used in commercial applications also because it fabricates and tempers well.
There are a number of low-iron brands available and your local glass shop will know them and can get the product readily from their supplier(s). If you need help in finding a reputable glass shop in your area, please re-connect with us here at Glass.com and we can help you identify one. I hope this response is what you were looking for and thank you again for contacting Glass.com.
